ANALYSIS OF THE ESSENCE OF A PLACE IN THE ARCHITECTURAL AESTHETICS OF THE TABRIZ HISTORIC BAZAAR USING A CULTURAL RESEARCH APPROACH

چکیده

Introduction/Problem Statement: The establishment of each period's identity holds within itself the essence of its respective place. An action emerges at the instant when an adjunct becomes unstable. Still, the manifestation and persistence of the essence of the place in a human environment is the transition of the reflection to the action of conventional investigation and the nature of cities in the contemporary era. Urban spaces used to be focused on function in the past. Specifically, these spaces include the open-air or enclosed places of the social network of connections such as squares, roads, and opening arterials among which one or several main urban pathways are used to lead to the market in larger cities and sometimes even in small towns. Tabriz's historical bazaar can thus be acknowledged as a comprehensive and elegant set of unique features and characteristics such as art, architecture, and unparalleled beauty complying with sustainable development from the past to present, in line with the essence of place and possessing an “Individual identity”.
Research Goal: The present study thus seeks to scrutinize and inquire about the essence of place in the architectural aesthetics of the Tabriz historical bazaar through a cultural research approach aiming to develop a conceptual framework, which would offer a recognition of the latent semantic dimensions while taking a powerful stride toward enhancing the nature of consequent landscape phenomena in the future of Tabriz historical bazaar adopting an effective mutual cultural research approach.
Research method: The present work can be classified into descriptive-analytical research in terms of implementation method as it initially identifies the indicators of the meaning of place in the architecture of the Tabriz historical bazaar and proceeds to perform an in-depth investigation on them to establish the respective concepts through secondary research on relevant documents. The present work is based on written documents on cultural research and its structure, presenting a model through qualitative-quantitative analysis.
Results: Results of the present research indicated that Tabriz's historical bazaar has managed to abide by the essence of place in terms of aesthetics in the architecture of the complex, resulting in the manifestation and persistence of an individual identity. On the other hand, the studied bazaar is capable of devoting itself to its social environment per demand when examined in terms of cultural research and can thus be considered to possess stable attachments in line with the essence of the place.
Conclusion: The findings of the present work revealed that urban spaces in Iran have consistently been going through highs and lows due to separate human phenomena. Specifically, the city of Tabriz and its traditional bazaar possess spatial coherence and poetic reasoning (return to place), granting them a unique identity due to their unparalleled architecture along with reflections of the essence of place at their heart. The present work thus argues that Tabriz's historical bazaar is a monument of global significance in terms of the essence of architectural place, socio-cultural-economic-political capital, and objective sustainability.
